Musician Angélica Garcia has released a brand new single, “Malagueña”, a multi-level melody with a rush of cascading electronic sounds and vocal interludes that spill over each other and rumble through the atmosphere. The new song is the premiere of Garcia’s upcoming EP, titled Electric Echo. Drawing inspiration from the music she heard playing in her home growing up, the new EP will be a series of classical music by Ranchera, reinvented in the eclectic and avant-garde spirit of this multicultural musician.

“It’s one of my passions that I wanted to do for a long time,” Garcia notes in an Instagram post announcing his new project. âAn interpretation of traditional Mexican ranchera songs through my looper and other electronic media. For years I have heard these songs resonate. Sung by great voices resonating through space and time – moving the pain and pride of their release. I draw on it when I want to understand my humanity.
With an easy to recognize sound and a hard to pin down style, Garcia sends the classic melody through an electric strainer and spreads his voice over elaborate loops to completely reinvent his musical structure. Yet Garcia incorporates classic Ranchera singing techniques – like hitting those iconic high notes – as she adds layer upon layer of vocal texture.

Growing up in the San Gabriel Valley before moving with his mother and stepfather to Accomac, VA – Garcia now lives in Richmond, Virginia. The contrast of the two coasts and Garcia’s cultural roots (Mexican and Salvadoran) all helped shape his artist’s perspective and create a vision for Garcia to explore, celebrate and merge all elements of his life and to its passed through music.
With a new EP, Garcia will perform at Gold-Diggers in Los Angeles on October 13 with Shy Lennonx and perform at the Levitation Music Festival in Austin, TX in late October.
