Key’s Kaginado Crossover Anime 2nd Season Gets Premiere On April 12

The second season of Key’s Kaginado The crossover anime series will premiere on April 12, the official website announced on Friday. The second season was announced at the end of December.

The series will premiere on Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, Niigata TV 21, AT-X, BS NTV, Hokuriku Asahi Broadcasting, and Asahi Broadcasting Nagano on April 12 at 25:00 JST.

A new visual teases a handful of new The angel beats! characters who will join the cast, made up of:

  • Hiroshi Kamiya as Yuzuru Otonashi
  • Harumi Sakurai as Yuri Nakamura
  • Kana Hanazawa as Tenshi
  • Ryohei Kimura as Hideki Hinata
  • Megumi Ogata as Ayato Naoi
  • Eri Kitamura as Yui


Kaginado first aired during the fall 2021 season. The series features a myriad of characters from popular titles such as Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters!, and Rewrite. The art is done in a chibi style, similar to another popular crossover series, Isekai Quartet.

Liden Films Kyoto Studio is producing the series, starring Kazuya Sakamoto (Nichijou, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) as director, and Tohya Okano (Prima doll) and Takashi Aoshima (No Game, No Life, Gabriel DropOut) serving as screenwriters.

Key was founded by Itaru Hinoue, Naoki Hisaya, Jun Maeda, and Shinji Orito in 1998. The visual novel developer released its first title, Kanonin 1999, which was then followed by Air in 2000. In 2004, Key published Clannad, which remains one of their most recognizable and popular works. All three games have received anime adaptations over the years.

Another popular key visual novel, Little Busters!was released in 2007. Two anime produced by JCStaff were produced between 2012 and 2013, and an 8-episode series titled Little Busters! EX came out the following year. In 2015, Key released a visual novel adaptation of The angel beats!

The developer has released two new visual novels, Loopers and Lunaria: Virtualized Moonchild, this past year. Kaginado streams worldwide on Crunchyroll, Funimation, HIDIVE, Wakanim, Aniplus-Asia, bilibili, and Muse Asia.
