May 2 – // MELODIC Magazine

Every week, the Melodic team puts together a weekly playlist of songs we can’t stop listening to. From pop to soul to rock n’ roll, we’re here to help you find your new favorite artist.
Here are some important points:

1. “Tbh Idk” – Elyse Jewel
It’s actually quite shocking that there hasn’t already been a popular song with those acronyms, but we’re glad Elyse Jewel is here to fill the void. Safe to say if you like Olivia Rodrigo or GAYLE you’ll love this…but again, tbh idk.

2. “There’s no getting around it” – Breaking Sad
I binged Acceptance’s 2005 album, Ghosts, lately, so no surprise this song is hitting right now. Dallas Green of City and Color also comes to mind as a valid comparison. If you’re looking for a new early emo-esque tune, this is your jam.

3. “Blue is just a color” – Georgia Cécile
This one’s a little different from our typical Weekly Roundup fare, but the catchy, jazzy/soulful heart of the song paired with Georgia Cécile’s vocal delivery come together to create an undeniably smooth track. Cécile infuses a lot of attitude and finesse into the lyrics with nuanced phrasing techniques that she makes much easier to do than they actually are. Listen to it and listen for yourself.

4. “Hurricane” – DOROTHY
When I first listened to this, the name of the song, in addition to the general glam rock n’ roll vibe, immediately made me think of “Rock You Like A Hurricane” by Scorpion. However, this song is way better and, frankly, badass to the nth degree. I don’t know if that was intentional, but it’s like Dorothy claiming the “hurricane” metaphor as something powerful as opposed to a euphemism for sex with a “hungry” “bitch” ( yes, the actual lyrics in the song Scorpion. See also: a clip featuring chained and caged women. Yuck.) I’m a fan.

5. “Preaching” – Emarosa
Color me clueless, but I was totally shocked when I found out it was an Emarosa single. I don’t know the band very well, but from what I remember from my days wearing Hot Topic and reading Alternative Press, they did NOT sound like that. That said, this very Lauv/The 1975 sound seems to suit them well. Preach, Emarosa.
