The best mixed-voice choir in the valley offers programs for children from K-8 in Glendale

Glendale, AZ – Phoenix Children’s Chorus (PCC) is launching a new choir program in the Northwest Valley that will provide music education, including literacy and performance, to children in kindergarten through 8th grade. Poco Voce is a non-auditioned musical exploration program for young singers in grades K-2, while PCC Voices is an auditioned choir for students in grades 2-8. All levels of experience are welcome. The choirs meet Wednesday evenings, September through mid-May, at Highland Lakes School (19000 N. 63rd Ave., Glendale).

“Phoenix Children’s Chorus has enriched the lives of children across the Valley for nearly 30 years with our downtown Phoenix music program,” said PCC Artistic Director Troy Meeker. “We want to bring the same world-class education right to your neighborhood. Our goal is that every kid who wants to sing has a place in PCC.

For children in kindergarten through 2nd grade, Poco Voce is a musical exploration class that helps children develop basic musical and vocal skills. Students explore the basics of music through age-appropriate teaching methods and learn to appreciate music while receiving the tools necessary for success in choral music.

“We know that exposure to music before the age of 10 has a lifelong impact on musical abilities. As such, we have designed this program to provide all children with access to quality music education,” says Meeker.

PCC Voices is a neighborhood choir program that provides high quality choral education and performance in the Northwest Valley, eliminating the need for long trips to find quality music education. It is divided into two sets. Vivo is PCC Voices’ youngest choir for children in grades 2-5. While acquiring the basic elements of musicality, choristers learn the value of practice and teamwork through the creative process. Choristers experience a variety of musical genres, fundamental singing techniques, and performance opportunities. Vivace is PCC Voices’ intermediate choir for students in grades 5-8. Choristers learn a wide range of musical literacy concepts and choral singing techniques. Additionally, choristers deepen their abilities to read music, learn proper rehearsal and concert etiquette, and benefit from a supportive community of peers passionate about the arts.

Auditions for the Northwest Valley Voices Vivace Choir will be Wednesday, August 10 and Wednesday, August 24 from 6-7 p.m. To register for Poco Voce or to audition, visit our website.
